This concert of choral music celebrates the legacy of the composer and ethno-musicologist, Zoltán Kodály, on the anniversary of his death. His philosophy and ideas for a systematic approach to music education through singing have inspired teachers, and enriched the lives of those they teach, both in Hungary and with huge success across the world. The Kodály approach was first brought to the UK in 1967 by his pupil Cecilia Vajda, who worked over many years for its advancement here and, in 1981, founded what is now the British Kodály Academy.

The ‘Kodály 2020’ concert is the second arranged by the BKA at St John’s Smith Square, with individual and joint performances by choirs from some of the schools across the UK where Kodály-based education is valued and practised.
