Song Academy’s Young Songwriter competition 2022 opens for entries

2022’s Young Songwriter of the Year competition is calling out for songs from young musicians and creative writers.

The competition, created by UK-based Song Academy, has been running for 12 years and gives young talent the chance to show off their skills to a celebrated panel of judges. This year, the panel includes Miranda Cooper, Tom Odell, Tom Grennan, Jimmy Napes, Plested, Hannah V, Eg White, Janet Devlin, Grace Davies and Calum Scott.

The lucky winners will receive a range of prizes, including a recording session with a top producer, £1000 of Yamaha equipment and equipment and software from Focusrite, Novation, Soundtrap, IK Multimedia, Amazing Songs. Winners will also be invited to play at The Young Songwriter 2022 live showcase.

As Tom Odell said, ‘When I was 13 years old I started writing songs, and over the following years I became more and more obsessed with it. But the thing that always kept me awake at night was how to get them out there for people to hear them. This is why I think the Song Academy Young Songwriter competition is a great way to inspire and help through this process, and it’s something I wish had been around when I was starting out.’

The competition is sponsored by YouTube Music, PRS for Music, Yamaha, ICMP, Focusrite, Soundtrap and Orange Learn. It is open to both experienced songwriters and first-timers, who can enter up to five songs for an entry fee of £10 per song. Entries must be in by the end of March and the winners will be announced at the showcase in July.
