Hawkstone Farmers’ Choir becomes first choir to win Britain’s Got Talent
Hawkstone Farmers’ Choir’s victory placed farmers’ mental health and rural communities at the centre of one of UK television’s biggest entertainment platforms.
The group, originally brought together in 2024 by TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, becomes the first choir to win the ITV competition and will donate its £250,000 prize money to farming charities and support organisations.
What began as a project involving singing farmers has since developed into a performing group representing agricultural workers from across the UK.
After the result was announced, choir member Katryna Shell dedicated the win to farmers and to anyone experiencing mental health difficulties, saying the subject should not be treated as taboo and encouraging people to speak up when they are struggling.
The result was welcomed by supporters who praised the choir for bringing attention to the pressures faced by farming communities. It also prompted criticism from some viewers online, with unproven claims that Clarkson’s profile and links with ITV may have influenced the outcome.
The choir has previously supported mental health charity Shout through its record, The Banned One, with profits due to go to the charity’s text support service.
As winners, the choir will also participate in the 2026 Royal Variety Performance in November.
