Indonesia launches inaugural national conference for choral conductors
A new national event for choral leadership will launch this October, as the inaugural Conference of Indonesian Choral Conductors brings together an international faculty of conductors, educators, and ensembles in Bandung.
Taking place from 9–11 October 2026 at Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, the conference is organised by the Bandung Choral Society in collaboration with the Indonesia Choral Conductors Club. The event is led by Artistic Director Tommyanto Kandisaputra, with a focus on strengthening conducting practice and supporting the development of choral music across Indonesia .
The programme includes contributions from a mix of international and Indonesian speakers, among them Lorenzo Donati (Italy), Mark Anthony Carpio (Philippines), Dr Graeme Langager (Canada), and Catharina Leimena (Indonesia). Sessions will cover areas such as rehearsal technique, vocal pedagogy, repertoire and conducting practice .
Alongside seminars and workshops, the conference will offer conducting masterclasses with a demonstration choir, as well as ‘Meet the Choir’ sessions and round table discussions focused on collaboration and regional development .
Performances form part of the programme, with guest appearances from the Philippine Madrigal Singers and UT Insieme Vocale-Consonante , alongside a series of concerts and collaborative singing sessions involving participants.
The event also aims to support networking between conductors from across Indonesia, with a view to encouraging future projects and professional exchange.
As a first edition, the conference represents a structured step towards building a more connected and developed choral sector in Indonesia, while adding a new meeting point to the wider international choral calendar.
