Choirs invited to join Berlin performance of Christopher Tin’s The Drop That Contained the Sea
Singers and choirs are being invited to take part in a participatory performance of Christopher Tin’s The Drop That Contained the Sea, taking place at the Berlin Philharmonie from 9–12 September 2027.
Organiser CHORALSPACE has announced the project, led artistically by Oliver Rudin and Daniel Raaflaub, hin connection with the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, marked on 17 June 2026. The annual observance highlights the importance of water, land protection and environmental responsibility at a time when drought, extreme weather and wider environmental challenges are affecting communities around the world.
Tin’s large-scale choral work celebrates water as a source of life and a force connecting people, cultures and generations. Described by the organisers as a musical journey following water around the world, The Drop That Contained the Sea carries a message of shared responsibility and global connection.
The organisers said that protecting the planet is ‘a task for everyone – young and old alike’, adding that music can help bring people together, build understanding and inspire action.
Participating choirs will be able to join the Berlin performance project and will also have the opportunity to present a solo showcase in the Berlin Philharmonie.
