Esplanade’s Tapestry of Sacred Music returns to Singapore with global sacred traditions from 30 April
Singapore's Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay will present the 17th edition of A Tapestry of Sacred Music from 30 April to 3 May 2026, bringing together sacred music and devotional performance traditions from Singapore and around the world. The festival, launched in 2009, is designed as a secular space in which audiences can encounter a wide range of religious and community-based artforms.
This year’s programme includes Pakistani qawwali from Rizwan and Muazzam Ali Khan, Kurokawa noh from Japan, Papuan peroveta prophet songs, Corsican polyphonic singing, Sikh kirtan, Quranic recitation, Chinese Buddhist sutra chanting and organ music from Dutch organist Pieter van Dijk. The line-up also features talks, workshops and cultural exchanges alongside performances.
Esplanade says the festival aims to highlight what unites communities across different beliefs and traditions, inviting audiences to connect through sound, ritual and shared human experience. According to the organiser, this year’s edition moves ‘from mosques to temples, village grounds to cathedrals’, with performances rooted in diverse histories and geographies.
