Royal Conservatoire of Scotland appoints six new Governors
The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has appointed six new lay members to its Board of Governors, bringing experience across the arts, education, finance, law, public policy and governance.
The new Governors are Eleanor Bentley, Tanatsei Gambura, Marianna Hay MBE, Ronald Mackay, Ewan McIntosh FRSA and Karen Watt OBE.
The Board plays a key role in the oversight of the Conservatoire, monitoring performance and helping ensure that the institution meets its legal and regulatory responsibilities. Its membership includes staff and student representatives alongside external appointees.
Professor Dorothy Miell OBE, FRSE, Chair of the Board of Governors, said the appointments followed ‘a highly competitive recruitment process’, adding that the new Governors bring ‘a wealth of insight and professional experience, as well as a commitment to the performing arts’.
Karen Watt, former chief executive of the Scottish Funding Council, and Ewan McIntosh, founder and managing director of the international strategy consultancy NoTosh, take up their roles this month.
Eleanor Bentley, a chartered accountant with extensive governance, risk and financial management experience, artist and culture professional Tanatsei Gambura, and Marianna Hay MBE, founder of Orchestras for All and co-founder of Take Note, will begin their terms in October 2026.
Employment and discrimination law specialist Ronald Mackay, a partner at Burness Paull LLP and part-time employment tribunal judge, will join the Board in April 2027.
Professor Miell said she looked forward to the new Governors’ contribution to ‘securing the success and sustainability of Scotland’s national conservatoire’.
