VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble releases debut single featuring Maura Nava
The VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble has released its debut single, ‘Protégeme’, on Spotify and other digital streaming platforms.
The track features Colombian singer-songwriter Maura Nava and follows the Ensemble’s visit to the Cartagena Music Festival in January 2026, where it gave a series of concerts including a collaboration with Nava at the hospital heliport of Hospital Serena del Mar.
‘Protégeme’ was arranged specially for a cappella by Anthony Josep. The song reflects a deeply personal moment in Nava’s life, recalling the moment when her heart failed and she was rushed to hospital by ambulance. As she looked at her mother, she recognised the fear in her eyes and asked for protection.
The song has since become a prayer-like work for those seeking protection from something greater than themselves, exploring vulnerability, surrender, faith and trust in the present moment.
Later in 2026, the VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble will release a full album, Songs of Doubt and Wonderment, on VOCES8 Records. The album will be dedicated to the music of Swedish composer Mårten Jansson, showcasing his expressive choral writing, and will feature the Stockholm Saxophone Ensemble and conductor Ragnar Bohlin.
